~ Eirann Dunbar
Saturday 8:30am to 9:45am & Sunday 8am to 9am: Pavilion
Just
as we return to our most playful selves in dance, you will reunite
with your sense of wonder in Eirann's ContraYoga! Lengthen your
muscles, relax your entire body and get ready to play all day at
Summer Soirée.
“YOGA:
to yoke, join; to unite. CONTRA: in opposition or contrast to. CONTRAYOGA:
to reunite within and without!!! Explore and unite your very self
within, and join us in YOGACONTRA. Through the vehicle of breath,
we’ll Practice Qi Gong's Six Healing Sounds.
“Play
with presence with creative movement that evokes the beautiful inner
child. Visit partner-yoga play for restorative relaxation and fun
in surrendering to celebrate what it is to be here for even a moment.
Enjoy eventual exaltation into the willful yang of sun salutation,
and other joyful, freeing and refreshing asanas. Restore, Recharge,
Rejuvenate! Everyone / All Levels Welcome.”

Snappy
Squares ~ Cis Hinkle / Contraversial
Saturday, 1pm-2:30 pm, Bryson
In
the 1950’s just before rock 'n' roll, square dancing swept
the country. Creativity and innovation were all the rage, and
new moves were invented every day. That inventive spirit is still
alive and well among square dance composers today – and
among callers such as Cis Hinkle. Come explore some fresh ideas
from ‘back in the day’ and a few contemporary takes
on the tradition.

Summer Soirée dancers love
to waltz! It's a perfect way to start the day, we hear over and
over again. We continue the tradition of a morning waltz on both
Saturday and Sunday mornings, from 10:30 to noon. This year, the
Saturday waltzes will be played by the incomparable Notorious and
the Sunday waltz by two amazing local musicians - Cailen Campbell
and David Brown - known as Contraversial. We've added another waltz
session to this year's program. Contraversial will play waltzes
on Saturday evening from 6:30 to 7:45pm in Bryson.

English
Country Workshop and Dance ~ AnneMarie Walter
Last
year's English workshop was such a success that we have expanded
our program this year. For those who love ECD and wouldn't miss
one, or for those who are curious about contra dancing's roots and
may be familiar with ECD from watching the cinematic adaptations
of Jane Austen novels, AnneMarie Walter will present a workshop
on Saturday with easy dances that teach basic English choreography.
Karen Gaughan on keyboards. At Sunday morning's dance, Notorious
will play and AnneMarie will call English Country Dances that range
from zesty to stately, but always quite flirty!
(Note: if you attend this workshop, paid Sunday lunch sandwiches
will be held for you.)
Saturday,
10am-11:30am ECD Workshop, Pavilion
Sunday 11:00am-12:45pm, English Country Dance,

Zweifacher
Workshop ~ Diane Silver Ready
for a roller coaster ride? Zwiefacher is a German folk/couples dance
that uses a combination of turning-waltz and pivot steps, resulting
in a very twirly, spinning ride! Each zwiefacher tune has a different
pattern of waltz and pivot steps. The fun comes not only in the
merry-go-round ride, but also in matching the steps to the music.
In this workshop, we’ll nail down the mechanics that make
it fast and fun, and introduce a few simple patterns and the tunes
that go with them. Complexity will be based on those present, and
harder is not necessarily better. So come on out, whether new or
experienced.

Contra: Flourishes ~ Charley Harvey and Harriette Bugel
You’re
not new to contra dancing, you've got the Petronella figured out:
spin to the right, clap clap. You know how to twirl her …
or be twirled. You get to the right place at the right time.
Ho,
hum.
Now,
it’s time to have fun getting your partner, your neighbor
and or yourself from A to B in a creative way. And you know when
Charley Harvey and Harriette Bugel get together to teach contra
flourishes you're going to have a blast adding some creativity to
your style.
